Carron & the War Effort

June 7, 2024

Following up on our last post, did you know we also provided entertainment and recreation to the troops?

The story of providing camouflage nets to the war effort has been relatively well known and often told over the years.  Less so is the fact that the company also provided volleyball nets for the armed forces during this time.  These nets were woven by hand from ¼” cotton tape.  The first photo shows these nets in use by multiple sailors playing volleyball on the deck of the USS Wasp in 1942.  A few years ago, one of these nets resurfaced as part of a storage unit find in California and went up for sale on Ebay.  We were able to purchase the net and reconnect with this long-forgotten part of the Carron Net story.
